1/72 Tamiya Spitfire Vb Trop
Evening all,
It's fair to say 2012 was a bit of a write-off for me modelling wise. With a major loss of enthusiasm, I only managed to finish five kits, with most being far lower than the standards I set myself. So, with a new year comes new motivation, and I'm determined to devote more of my time to modelling and start enjoying the hobby again. To start the year, naturally I've cracked open a Tamiya Spitfire Vb, the tried and tested method of re-energising motivation. There's not much to say about the kit that hasn't been said a thousand times before, so here's the result after three nights work.
I haven't gone overboard with the interior as naff all is visible, though I did add some Eduard belts as I had them lying around. Just a few areas to tidy up and she'll be ready for paint tomorrow with any luck. I'll be finishing her in desert camo as it's just so damn cool!
Cheers
Shaun

Thanks chap, though time will tell!
Flying along with this one and after a quick tidy up and priming I've got the underside painted. After laying down the base coat- Xtracolor Azure Blue- I lightened and darkened it before adding plenty of shading...
Before blending it all back together with the neat blue. Nice and subtle.
Tomorrow should see the Mid Stone going on

I do love a spit matey- this is making me want to dig out my IXc and aires pit... damn you!!!
great work on that Azure blue- a tricky one to get looking 'right', and you've nailed it! Now for the mid stone/dark earth

Cheers matey
Mid stone is now on. I've gone for slightly more fading on the upper surfaces as presumably the scorching desert sun would have bleached the colour quicker than the undersides.
Dark Earth should be going on tomorrow
Cheers

Superb job so far- they would've got absolutely filthy in the Mediterranean, so am looking forward to seeing how you weather her... For a second there, I was thinking two things- a) that dark earth looks a bit grey to me, and b) looks like there isn't enough of it on her... then I sussed what you did there...

Cheers mate, your package arrived yet?
Dark Earth went on last night, an satisfyingly unmasked this evening. The spinner and tailplane are dry fitted for now.
Got a few touch ups to do, but the DE is still a bit tacky, so I'll take a night off from her and get that sorted tomorrow
Cheers

Re: 1/72 Tamiya Spitfire Vb Trop
Thanks bud
Work has progressed nicely with this one, having got the decals on and made a start on the weathering. Had a bit of grief getting the underside roundels to settle over the bulges with Klear, making a bit of a mess of them in truth, but as they're on the underside I can live with it. Once sealed in with a couple coats of Klear (can't say I particularly enjoy spraying the stuff...) I applied a dirty oil wash for the panel lines, which has subsequently been removed, as well as the tell-tell staining.
More weathering to come, but first, I need to mask and spray the patches over the gun ports as the decals didn't play ball here either- am hoping two coats of Klear is enough to stop the masking tape lifting the roundels....

Nearly there with this one now. Have added the exhaust and gun staining, some light chipping around the wing roots and got her on her wheels. Just a few details to sort out before matting her down tomorrow evening.
Cheers
