Spitfire Mk.Vb - MTO
Do I really have to tell which sqn I`m doing....??
Had this kit for a good 6 months now and while the Lightning is on hold for a moment, I felt that I really should add the other type flown by 74 in the MTO.
So, here`s what I`m doing......,
Now, some of you will notice that the aircraft in the profile is a Mk.Vc and not a Mk.Vb. Well it turns out that while the majority of 74`s brown looking Spit`s were the `C`s, at least 4, if not 8 Spit `B`s were also used on ops. (Confussed yet?)
So here`s the kit I`m using with the gratuitus `sprue shot.....,
...... and the progress so far...., (not very exciting so far is it...?)
So far, I`m a tad surprised at how fiddly this kit is considering that most Spit kits can go together in an afternoon. But saying that, things like having to put the props on the hub means that it`s an easier to paint so I won`t complain too much.

Very interesting sprue shot as far as I'm concerned
The nose is a seperate part - if i had known that before sawing off the airfix one i butchered i may well have bought one!

You don't often see MTO Spits, and in the correct scale too!
Will be watching with interest.

Ok, so I`m pretty much plodding along with this. Removed the `lumps` from the leading edges, (no idea why they are on there...??), and started work on the props.
Now as you can see, I`ve added the slipper tank. I have absolutely no proof either way if 74 used them or not so it came down to what I liked. I think the trop intake and slipper tank give the model a unique look, but without taking away that Spitfire look.

Latest update on the Spit. A few touch ups needed with canopy to be added.
The decals were a nightmare, now doubt due to a bit of age, but overall it should look good next to the MTO Hurricane.
